The Artist’s Story:

Funny story about this piece... many years ago I painted this piece in my first art studio. This studio was so special to me, a place where I truly rediscovered my art voice. When I orginally started painting hearts, they were very different than I paint now. Pop Hearts marks a point in time when my painting style transformed into a completely new style. At that time I was still painting 'Reverse Glass' paintings and my studio was a huge beautiful mess! Rescued Vintage Windows hanging from the ceiling, drape material thrown whimiscally over the wooden beams... Oh how I loved this studio.

Any way, one particular spring morning around 2002, I think? I decided to paint Pop Hearts, I was listening to Earth, Wind & Fire and Isley Brothers. And for some reason I was thinking about love and the Power of Love. How in each one of us we have the capacity to Love, bring life to and to take life away. Funny how we all effect eachother. Kind of like that six degrees concept, you know what you do today affects other and can change your life forever.

Well becuase this was a brand new style for me I was a bit shy about sharing it with the world, so I never did... and then months later I decided that probably no one would understand it, think it was too childlike, wouldn't like the colors... At that point early in my carreer the critisism lurked at every art show, "I could do that", "You must really like hearts", " Oh look honey you could paint just like that"...

It is tough on artists out on the street we nakedly open our hearts to the world and lay pray to every opinioun, good and bad. It is tough and most artist don't make it through this zone. But thank god for my adorable family and wonderfully supportive hubby I am still here today and still painting hearts.

My hearts have touched the lives of 1000's of people all over the world and it is becuase of my hubby that today you can enjoy this piece. You see, one day after some negative person had invalidated my hearts, I decided to paint over 'Pop Hearts' I figured it was easier than getting squashed by a people that didn't understand my pure inocense in sharing my love with the world.

Well my hubby caught me in the act, I had brush in hand and white paint in a tray and he said," NO, don't paint over that piece. I LOVE THAT PIECE!!!" And thats the story behind 'Pop Hearts'. We all have a lot of love inside of us and when we let it shine and flow it out tothe world you never know who it will affect.
