The Artist’s Inspiration:
View a field as a child might. You will never be the same.
“As an artist I am fascinated & inspired by many Master painters, but some I have a sort of soul connection to. Van Gogh is one of those artists’ that touch me deeply.
Of course Sunflowers & Irises are his signature flowers & early on in my art career people would constantly tell me that my flowers & even some hearts reminded them of Van Gogh. They said the passion they felt was raw yet innocent at the same time.
I am embarrassed to say, at that time I really did not know Van Gogh. As a self taught artist I really never studied artists & their works and from the beginning of my career, I have always painted what I feel inside, not what I see. After 1000’s of my paintings have been sold, I see now that I combine the two, what I feel & then what I see. What I feel always comes first & most likely this is where Van Gough and I are kindred spirits. He painted from the deepest part of his soul. These sunflowers here are inspired by a village in the Umbria Region of Italy, Orveito.
Sunflowers represent so many spiritual things to me, mainly "gift giving"
This piece is my homage to Van Gogh, my soul brother."
